Host Guide
The run-of-show for whoever is driving the event. It assumes no plugin knowledge: everything here is typed into normal Minecraft chat.
You need the rally.use and rally.admin permissions. If you are an operator you already have them. Test one command before you go live rather than finding out on stream.
Before you go live
1. Register the route as waypoints
Fly to each stop, stand where you want the crowd to appear (solid ground, a good angle, a couple of blocks of clearance) and save it:
/rally waypoint set spawn-cathedral
/rally waypoint set harbour
/rally waypoint set redstone-farm
Use short names with no spaces. Check the list afterwards:
/rally waypoint list
Waypoints are written to disk immediately and survive restarts. Do this the day before if you can. It is the single biggest thing that makes a live show go smoothly, because you never have to fly to a build with an audience watching.
2. Check the roster
/rally roster
This shows everyone who is opted in and currently online, with a count. That count is your audience size. If it looks low, remind people in chat to run /rally optin.
3. Decide your countdown length
Open plugins/RallyPoint/config.yml and set countdown-seconds to fit your commentary. Five seconds is the default and works well: long enough to say "alright, everyone hold on, we're heading to the harbour" and land on the word "harbour". If you talk faster, try three.
Then apply it without a restart:
/rally reload
Moving the crowd, stop to stop
The whole event is this one command, repeated:
/rally go harbour
The crowd sees a countdown with a title and a tick sound, the destination chunk loads in the background, then everyone is teleported in small batches over a few ticks and spread around your waypoint. They get a title with the stop name and a chime on arrival. You get a line telling you how many players were moved.
You travel with the crowd unless you are already at the stop. If you are within 16 blocks of the destination - which you are whenever you fly to a build first and rally from there, and always with /rally here - you stay put and keep your camera where you set it. If you rally to a waypoint from across the map, you come along with everyone else so you are not left behind. This holds whether or not you are opted in, and a host who only comes along to lead is never caught by stage mode.
The usual run-of-show is unchanged: fly to the build, set your shot, then rally - you will not be moved.
Other ways to move the crowd:
/rally herebrings everyone to where you are standing. Use this for unplanned stops./rally to <player>brings everyone to another player. Handy when a builder is showing their own work and you want the crowd at them, not at you.
Using the countdown with your commentary
Fire the command before you finish your sentence, not after. The countdown runs while you talk:
- "Right, that's the cathedral, let's head down to the harbour." (type
/rally go harbouras you start the sentence) - The countdown ticks away on everyone's screen.
- Everyone lands as you say "and here we are."
Setting countdown-seconds: 0 removes the delay entirely, but the countdown is what stops people being yanked mid-sentence. Leave it on for the main event.
Calling off a rally
Fired the wrong stop? While the countdown is still running:
/rally cancel
Nobody moves, and the crowd is told the rally was called off. Once the teleports have actually started it is too late, and the plugin will say so rather than splitting the group half-way. Just rally again to the right stop.
Running a tour
If your route is a set of MineMail mailboxes, you can skip registering waypoints by hand and let RallyPoint build the route for you:
/rally tour load minemail
That gathers every mailbox into an ordered tour - world by world, then nearest-neighbour from spawn within each world - and you step through it one command at a time:
/rally tour next # rally the crowd to the next stop
/rally tour prev # go back a stop
/rally tour status # which stop am I on?
/rally tour list # see the whole route, with the current stop marked
The crowd gathers in a ring around each mailbox, facing it, on safe ground. The tour only advances when a rally actually fires, so a stop that is refused (cooldown, nobody opted in, an unsafe spot you need to force) can just be retried - you do not lose your place. Your position is saved to session.yml, so a restart mid-tour picks up at the same stop.
A full walkthrough, including ordering and what happens without MineMail, is on the Tours page.
Stage mode
Stage mode holds the crowd so nobody walks in front of the shot. Turn it on once you have arrived and the camera is where you want it:
/rally stage on
By default this puts everyone into spectator mode: they can look around and fly, but they cannot block the shot or grief the build. Set stage.mode: freeze in the config instead if you would rather they stayed visible in the scene but could not move.
/rally stage off
Everyone goes straight back to the game mode they had before. You keep your own game mode either way, because anyone with rally.admin is exempt.
When to use it: a build with a fragile interior, a shot where you want a clean frame, or an interview segment. When not to: most of the event. Players enjoy walking around the builds, and the walking around is what looks alive on camera.
Stage mode is reversible even if things go wrong. If the server restarts or the plugin is reloaded while it is on, everyone is put back to their correct game mode automatically: online players right away, anyone offline the next time they log in.
Someone joins mid-event
They opt in themselves with /rally optin and are picked up automatically at the next stop, including if they opt in during a countdown. Nothing for you to do.
If they want to join immediately, tell them to run /rally catchup, which drops them at the current stop. Anyone who logs in having missed a rally is told about that command automatically.
Check /rally roster between stops if you want to watch the audience grow.
Sending everyone home
At the end:
/rally return
Every player with a stored return point is sent back to exactly where they stood before the last rally picked them up, including anyone who opted out part-way through. Confirm the count it reports roughly matches your roster.
Anyone who logged off during the event is remembered and sent home the next time they log in, so you do not need to chase them. The console line after /rally return tells you how many are waiting.
Run /rally stage off first if stage mode is still on.
